A philosophy is only worth stating if it rules something out. These do. They decide what we draw, what we build, what we decline, and what we deliberately leave undone.

Timeless landscapes
We design for the seventh year and the seventieth, not for the handover photograph. Fashion is expensive to maintain and impossible to age well.

Human wellbeing
Landscape measurably changes how people feel and behave. That is not a soft benefit; it is the principal reason the work matters.

Ecological responsibility
Local provenance, retained material, minimal earthworks, and a monitoring framework so the claims can be checked.

Design with purpose
Every element must earn its place. If it cannot be justified structurally, ecologically or emotionally, it is removed.

Less, better
Fewer materials, fewer gestures, larger volumes of what remains. Restraint is not austerity — it is the only route to calm.

Craftsmanship
Traditional trades, held in house wherever possible. A wall built by hand carries the record of the hands that built it.

The measure of a landscape is what it is worth to people who never met the person who made it.

What this rules out.
- Gestures that only work in the first season.
- Semi-mature stock bought to shortcut establishment.
- Material imported when the site could have supplied it.
- Earthworks larger than the drainage actually requires.
- Access designed at the end and audited for compliance.
- Consultation held after the decisions have been taken.
